What Is National Skilled Nursing Care Week About?
National Skilled Nursing Week recognizes the nurses providing around-the-clock care to seniors and individuals with disabilities in nationwide nursing care centers. The day-to-day work of nurses makes it possible for patients to experience comfortable and healthy lives in care centers.
This year’s theme for National Skilled Nursing Week (NSNCW) is Cultivating Kindness. The simple acts of kindness practiced by nurses everywhere literally save lives. When patients are at their worst, a nurse’s upbeat “Hi, how are you doing?” or enthusiastic smile can lift patients out of isolation and depression.
24-Hour Care in Residential Care Homes
Do you know what it takes to offer 24-hour care to patients living in residential care facilities? Nurses are available to attend to emergencies when patients need it the most. With one touch of a button, a nurse will assess the situation and make life-saving decisions.
A nurse is there to ease the situation when patients are uncomfortable or anxious. Nurses take vital signs, administer medicines, execute treatment plans, and advocate for patients with families and doctors.
A nurse can prepare IVs, draw blood, and order blood work to get answers to undiagnosed issues. Nurses foster relationships with their patients. They show up when patients need them the most. Why do we celebrate nurses in nursing care centers? Because they deserve to be recognized for their dedication and expertise.
Ways to Celebrate the Nurses in Your Life
Here are some fun ideas for celebrating nurses in your life, along with the theme of Cultivating Kindness:
- Gift a night of entertainment – Whether it be a cooking class, art class, or night out to dinner, present a gift card to the nurse in your life to allow them to relax and enjoy their time off.
- Massage or spa day – Self-care and refreshing on your off days are essential to being a successful nurse and cultivating kindness during daily tasks. Choose a spa in the area for the nurses in your life to attend and enjoy being pampered.
- Deliver lunch or a treat – A quick and easy way to acknowledge nurses in care centers is to drop by with a meal or treat for them. Show them that their efforts are appreciated and on your mind. Spread your thanks and kindness by offering a small token of appreciation.
