We Honor Veterans

Veterans Day is a time to pay tribute to those who have served our country, reflecting on the sacrifices they have made for our freedom. The needs of veterans extend beyond just one day a year. We Honor Veterans, a program by the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization (NHPCO) and the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), is a pioneering initiative. It extends the appreciation and care for veterans throughout their end-of-life journey.

Goals of We Honor Veterans

We Honor Veterans provides educational tools and resources to advance the following goals:

Promote Veteran-Centric Educational Activities: The program focuses on increasing awareness and understanding of the specific needs of veterans. Through training and resources, care providers can better address these needs and tailor their services accordingly.

Increase Organizational Capacity to Serve Veterans: Hospice organizations and other care providers involved in the program can enhance their capacity to support veterans effectively. This includes providing specialized end-of-life care and support.

Support Development of Strategic Partnerships: Collaboration is key to caring for veterans. The program encourages the development of strategic partnerships between healthcare organizations to ensure that veterans receive the best care possible.

Increase Access and Improve Quality: The program’s goal is to ensure that all veterans have access to high-quality end-of-life care. We Honor Veterans aims to improve the overall quality of care provided to veterans and their families.

Prioritizing Comfort and Quality of Life for Veterans

Hospice care for veterans comes with a commitment to extend comfort and enhance a patient’s quality of life. When a terminal diagnosis is given, the emphasis shifts from curative treatments to alleviating pain and discomfort. Hospice care professionals at Bonita Springs Healthcare Services, work together with patients to create personalized care plans. These plans consider the individual’s unique needs and preferences, ensuring their comfort and dignity are preserved.

Expanding Awareness and Support

Many veterans are not enrolled in the VA and may not be aware of end-of-life services and benefits available to them. These include Medicare Hospice Benefit and VA-paid hospice care. The We Honor Veterans program bridges this information gap and ensures veterans receive the care they deserve.

Raising awareness about We Honor Veterans makes it easy for community members, including veterans, to identify organizations that have made a genuine commitment to offer veteran-specific care and services provided by a competent and highly skilled workforce.

On Veterans Day and every day, We Honor Veterans serves as a reminder that the sacrifices made by veterans deserve the highest level of care and respect. This heartfelt initiative demonstrates our gratitude for their service in a tangible way.

Hospice care is not only about the end of life. It is about cherishing life amidst the journey. We understand that the end-of-life journey is an extremely challenging time. Therefore, at Bonita Springs Healthcare Services we make every effort to offer the best hospice care to our patients. If you have any questions or need assistance, contact us today!
